Why was my photo made smaller before upscaling?
AI upscaling needs a lot of memory. To keep phones and laptops from freezing, photos larger than about 1200 px (2×) or 600 px (4×) are reduced first — less on phones or computers without graphics acceleration. For big photos the "Enlarge + sharpen" method has no such limit.
Can AI recover a face or text that is not in the photo?
No. Upscaling sharpens edges and textures that are already there; it cannot invent detail that was never captured. It works best on small but clear photos, logos, screenshots and old low-resolution pictures.
